NEW JHSC Certification Training Standards
New training standards for Joint Health & Safety (JHSC) Certification take effect on March 1, 2016. These Ministry of Labour (MOL) standards will impact Ontario companies with 20 or more employees.
Key Changes
The following changes will apply to all workplaces required to have a JHSC:
  •   People who earn certification status under the new standards will require refresher training every 3 years to maintain their status.
  •   Members who earn certification status under the current standards will not require re-certification and are considered certified for life.
  •   Self-paced training via print-based workbooks and e-courses will no longer be available. These training options will only be available for purchase from Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS) until January 29, 2016.
Effective March 1, 2016
To be certified under the current standards and be exempt from refresher training, you must complete both Parts One and Two by February 29, 2016 with paperwork submitted to the Ministry of Labour (MOL) postmarked no later than April 30, 2016.
