Work Practices/Administrative Controls: Describe briefly here any work practices that help control
the exposure to the designated substance. Examples of work practices may include safe handling
procedures, job rotation, housekeeping practices and how it is stored. Do not forget to include indirect
operations such as maintenance.
Note whether these safe work practices are written down and reviewed/updated regularly. Have workers
been trained on these safe work practices, and is it documented?
Training is an example of an Administrative Control. Describe the training you do for new and existing
employees about the nature of the potential hazard. Training topics should include possible health
effects, personal protective equipment (if required), methods of safe handling and storage, proper use of
control equipment and training in emergency procedures and hygiene practices. Note whether there are
labeling procedures and whether warning signs are used in relation to the substance. Attach pertinent
training information if available.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Describe any protective equipment supplied for use by
workers at any stage of the process, indicating when and where it is used.
Describe briefly the instructions/training and practices regarding fitting, cleaning and maintenance of
the required PPE. Following the manufacturer's information about the PPE is always recommended.
Other Items to consider:
Hygiene Facilities and Practices: Describe present practices and instructions with regard to wearing
and cleaning of work clothes, washing and showering facilities, eating facilities and practices. Describe
these facilities and indicate their location with respect to the process.
Emergency Procedures/Equipment: Is there a written procedure for handling an emergency such as a
spill, fire etc., involving the substance?
What equipment is available for such emergencies – e.g., respirators, eyewash fountains, emergency
showers, and first aid? Do you have routine drills to practice emergency evacuation and spill response?
Future Control Recommendations: Describe any recommendations to existing control measures or
new control measures that have become apparent during this assessment.
