in tandem

We, as Chair of the Board and President & CEO,
have the pleasure of working with so many people who share our commitment
to activating knowledge and sustaining life. Every day, we see individuals
with diverse backgrounds and perspectives work in tandem to develop new health
and safety solutions, share best practices, and help Workplace Safety & Prevention
Services (WSPS) find new ways to reach more people.
In 2014, we felt the power of this collaboration more than ever.
Once again, we faced financial constraints, and as the year drew to a close, the Ministry
of Labour informed all of the Health and Safety Associations that a further budget
reduction would be necessary.
Our economy is still fragile. You're operating under the persistent threat of increasing
interest rates, weak employment numbers, and major shifts in the retail, oil and
manufacturing sectors. Amidst all of this, you face new legislation and expectations
for creating healthier and safer workplaces.
Demand for health and safety support is growing, not declining. Cutting the budget
will be challenging, but it won't hold us back.
We will continue to be rigorous in monitoring costs and seeking out new sources
of revenue. And, with the momentum we gained working in tandem with our customers,
employees, volunteers and partners last year, we will continue to grow the life of your
businesses.
In the early part of the year, we realigned the organization to enhance value and
improve speed-to-service for customers. We also amalgamated our office space
and outsourced the warehousing of our products, which yielded significant
efficiency gains.
We increased the dialogue between the Board of Directors and senior leaders of the
organization, asking better questions of one another and exchanging more ideas—
a new level of collaboration that we will build on as we move forward.
