What are the phases of this initiative?
PHASE 1: Education, Outreach and Awareness – April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023
Compliance assistance and awareness campaign with Workplace Safety & Prevention
Services (WSPS)
During this time, education, outreach, and awareness will take place. Employers are invited to
engage with their local WSPS account manager or consultant who will offer assistance to support
the initiative.
PHASE 2: Inspections Initiative – July 4, 2022, to March 31, 2023
Focused inspections campaign
Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) ergonomists will conduct
proactive inspections in warehouses, as well as workplaces that have a warehousing area.
What is the focus of the initiative?
Ergonomists will focus on the following key priorities:
MSD Prevention – manual materials handling
Manual material handling involving ladders
Ergonomics and warehouse equipment – visibility hazards

Ministry ergonomists will check that:
Employers have provided training to workers on safe manual materials handling practices
Items are being manually handled in a safe manner
Items are stored so that they can be placed or withdrawn in a safe manner
Obstructions and/or hazards on the floor are not interfering with manual materials
handling activities
Handling items while the worker is on a ladder is being performed in a safe manner
Measures are being taken to ensure vehicular/mobile equipment use in the warehouse does
not endanger the safety of any worker
