FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 4 © 2022, Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS) 1 877 494 WSPS (9777) | 905 614 1400 | wsps.ca WSPS & Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development WAREHOUSING (Ergonomics) INITIATIVE Regional ergonomists will review compliance to Section 11 of the Industrial Regulation that sets out requirements for floor or other surfaces used by a worker. Among other items, floors and other surfaces must be kept free of: obstructions hazards Obstructions can lead to: excessive reaching for product unsafe/unstable placement of a ladder needless repetitive lifting carrying where a cart could have been used Hazards, such as bumps, cracks, or holes in the floor, can lead to: high push/pull forces to move carts Regional ergonomists will be focusing on the following activities: climbing up or down a ladder working on ladders handling objects on ladders access to other work surfaces Regional ergonomists will be checking to see that measures are being taken to ensure vehicular/mobile equipment traffic does not endanger the safety of any worker. Regional ergonomists may review: Operator 'fit' with the equipment and controls (examine seating, reaches, access/egress) Operator and pedestrian sightlines in the warehouse Pedestrian and equipment traffic management processes/program Workers wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as high visibility safety apparel Visibility aids on equipment and in the workplace Workplace/workstation layout as it impacts mobile equipment and pedestrian movement Adequate lighting conditions WSPS.CA
