This resource gives tips for both pedestrians and equipment operators on how to stay safe while working in these areas. Pedestrian Safety What Workers Need to Know Never walk directly in front of or behind a forklift. Make eye contact with operator, wait for signal to walk, and proceed with caution. Wear high visibility clothing. Attend pedestrian safety training. Avoid use of cell phones or other distractions in work areas. Use designated path to avoid high risk areas. Look in your direction of travel and know your surroundings. If travel path is blocked use a spotter or operate in reverse. Avoid travel during high pedestrian traffic times, such as breaks and shift change. Slow down, stop and sound the horn at intersections, blind corners, and doorways.
