Conveyor Safety
What Supervisors Need to Know
Conveyors are a piece of equipment designed to help move articles or materials from one area to
another. There are many kinds of conveyors that are used for moving different materials or things.
The movement of items can present a wide variety of workplace hazards, including crush and
entanglement hazards. Injuries can occur when equipment is not guarded or when workers work in
an unsafe manner.
1. Guarding on running nip and entanglement hazards.
2. Guards on sides of conveyors.
3. Belt in good condition.
4. E-stop within easy reach of operator.
Supervisor Responsibilities

Ensure missing guards or damage is replaced or repaired according to manufacturer
specifications and reviewed by an engineer when necessary.
