Cellular phones can be a significant distracon and should never be used while driving. Under the law, Ontario drivers are forbidden from talking, texng, dialing or emailing using hand- held devices while driving. Prevention Points Although a cell phone can be seen as a valuable piece of equipment in the workplace, they can also be a source of worker distraction with fatal consequences. Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section on page 7 before performing any task. If necessary, provide workers with the correct hands-free equipment for their cell phones. Always pull over away from traffic and park before making a call on a cell phone. Only company cell phones should be used during working hours to ensure fewer distractions on the jobsite. ! ! ACTION! Review your company's policies and procedures regarding cell phone usage in the workplace.
