Fatali�es occur every year because of workplace falls, and one in every five lost-�me injury claims in Ontario is caused by a fall (WSPS, 2022; CCOHS, 2024). Avoid working at heights as much as possible. All workers are required to be properly trained to use fall arrest equipment before use. Prevention Points Only workers who have acquired the knowledge, training, experience and understanding of the laws should be allowed to perform this task. It is the employer's duty to ensure the worker is competent in all aspects of the required tasks of the job. Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section on page 7 before performing any task. There are three areas to consider when working with a fall arrest system: Equipment Check equipment for any defects or damage before use. Once equipment has been involved in an incident, it should be removed from use, only once an incident/accident investigation by the safety team and authorities has been completed can use be resumed. Ensure the equipment combination is properly engineered and inspected before using it for the job at hand (full body harness, anchor points, shock absorbers, shock absorbing lanyards, lanyards, snaps, hooks/connecting hardware, ropes/lifelines, retractable lifelines and rope grabs). ! !
