What are some types of MSDs hazards you can be exposed to? Know the hazards or factors in your job which could cause MSDs. Stretching, frequent breaks and job rota�on are some ways to reduce the risk of injury. Prevention Points MSDs are injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system; muscles, tendons and nerves. They may be caused or aggravated by various hazards or risk factors in the workplace. Consider the following to prevent MSDs in your workplace: Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section on page 7 before performing any task. Properly warm up and stretch the muscle groups being used for the task at hand before starting, during and after the task. Take frequent breaks when performing repetitive tasks. Minimize standing, bending or kneeling in one place for long periods of time. Ensure the tools and equipment being used are properly suited/fitted for the task and the worker. If possible, have workers rotate tasks throughout the day. Use mechanical equipment where possible to complete work. For more information on how to prevent MSDs, refer to the MSD Prevention Guideline for Ontario website . ! ? ACTION! Lead your crew through a series of stretches and exercises to prepare workers for the ask at hand. Focus on warming up all major muscle groups: back, chest, shoulder, arms, wrists and legs.
