How can your company improve their policies and procedures to ensure public safety? Always be aware of visitors and the public whether on the jobsite or at your place of business. Protect others by ensuring their safety at all �mes. Prevention Points You have the responsibility to conduct yourself in a safe and professional manner as well as ensuring the safety of the public and your customers. Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section on page 7 before performing any task. Signs indicating "Work in Progress," "Danger, Keep Out" or "No Trespassing" should be posted to caution the public of any condition where the public may come in contact with the job sites, workers, trucks, etc. Workers with equipment and vehicles parked on residential streets must use warning signs or pylons to warn the public of your work. Any holes, ditches, trenches which are exposed to the public must have barricades, fences and/or flashing lights and/or reflective markers for night safety. Locate barriers when digging or moving machinery in a public area. Underground utility locates must be clearly marked and visible. Advise customers (where applicable) when you are arriving to work on their premise and ask if there are any unusual job site conditions. Consider hiring a police officer to maintain public safety, where there is high pedestrian or vehicle traffic on or near the jobsite. Be mindful of your surroundings, others are at greatest risk if you are reversing equipment or if they are in blind spots of equipment. Ask your crew to set up the jobsite properly to ensure the jobsite is safe for general public and customers.
