What is the most common type of injury related to this equipment? Safe handling and awareness of proper use of snow blowers can prevent injuries such as amputa�ons. Prevention Points Snow blowers are a simple and effective piece of equipment to clear snow, however they can cause many severe injuries every year, including loss of fingers and toes, deep cuts, burns, crushed and broken bones if not used properly. Consider these prevention points: Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section on page 7 before performing any task. Inspect the area to cleared and make note of any obstacles, curbs, stumps, etc., and mark the area so that you can avoid them. Clear area of any objects and debris which may be hidden by the snow. Avoid using the equipment on steep slopes. Use extreme caution when clearing snow from mild slopes, especially when changing direction. Always clear up and down the incline, not across it. Be alert when clearing snow near traffic – don't turn your back to traffic! ! ?
