Considerations for locking out the power of electrical equipment: Unplug/disconnect the power of all electrical equipment at the source before repair or service. Remove workers from area and keep them in a public area. Lockout the power box with a lock. Only the operator doing the repair/service should have a key to the lockout lock. Tag the electrical device, noting the unit is under repair. Place appropriate danger signs on or around equipment being serviced to warn other workers.
