The key to improving rider safety begins with wearing the proper protec�ve equipment and training. Occupant ejec�ons and rollovers are the most common incidents which result in serious injuries or fatali�es. Prevention Points Although valuable tools in many situations, ATVs can be extremely dangerous in the hands of an untrained worker. Consider these prevention points: Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section on page 7 before performing any task. Practice safe riding techniques at all times. – Stay alert and avoid distractions – drivers should never use cell phones during operation. – Keep all hands, arms, legs, and feet inside the confines of the vehicle at all times. Avoid paved surface – pavement may seriously affect handling and control. Ensure the vehicle is equipped with a slow-moving vehicle (SMV) sign when traveling on roadways and use proper hand signals when stopping or turning. Sound horn at blind turns. Be alert for changing terrain or other hazards. Only carry a passenger on ATVs designed for two riders. Work within the equipment's maximum weight capacity. ! !
