Always have a spotter hold the ladder while you are moving on it. Always maintain 3 points of contact. To avoid a slipping incident while climbing, ensure your boots are not muddy or wet. If working higher than 10' (3 m) above the floor, you are required by law to use a fall restraint system. Never straddle the space between the ladder and another object. Workers should not stand on a rung not identified as a step. ACTION! Demonstrate the proper way to set up a ladder at a job site. Position the ladder on a 1' (0.3 m) horizontal, 3'–4' (1–1.2 m) vertical. Always have the top of the ladder extended 3' (1 m) above the working level. Ensure the bottom contact is firmly positioned and braced. (Be careful of slippery surfaces or loose material at the base of the ladder). 1 2 3
