Pruners can cause serious cuts or amputaons if misused – take the me and care to use the equipment safely and appropriately for each task. Prevention Points Pruners include hand pruners, shears, hand saws, loppers, pole pruners and pole saws. You may also include hedge trimmers in this category. Landscapers are not qualified to prune around electrical power lines and must follow the "limits of approach" as defined by the Ontario Regulation 213/91 s. 188 (2). Review the General Health & Safety Best Practices section on page 7 before performing any task. Pruning tools should always be sharp, lubricated and in good working condition. Watch for overhead electrical wires. Carry ladders horizontally and keep all tools away to all overhead powerlines. It is not recommended to prune or operate pruning equipment in the rain. When sawing, be aware of the wind direction as it may blow in your eyes, face and ears. Hand pruners should be closed when not in use and stored in a holster. Store shears and saws in protective sheath securely when your task is completed. ! ?
