Joanne
has more than 20 years in the labour movement and close to 10 years experience
in Health and Safety. Coming out of General Motors in Oshawa Ontario,
Joanne has been breaking down barriers for women in safety being the first
women in the history of GM Oshawa to be elected as an alternate, then full time
Health and Safety Representative in her plant. In 2019 Joanne was appointed to
the position of GM Oshawa, Unifor Health and Safety Coordinator. Sitting on the
General Motors Master Safety Committee since 2019 she has spent tireless hours
completing one of the fastest construction and launch projects for the re
establishment of the Oshawa Truck plant in the history of GM Globally, while
mentoring her team to establish greater safety protections within the workplace.
Joining the Unifor National Health Safety and Environment department in the spring of 2023 she now supports the health, safety and environment protections of over 315 thousand workers across 40 different sectors from coast to coast for Canada’s largest private sector union in the country. Joanne is excited to participate and use her safety experience and knowledge as a voice of working people in Canada.
