Rural Farm Safety

Working & living safely in your rural community

If you operate a farm or live in a rural community, you are exposed to unique health and safety concerns. Working and living safely is always top of mind for you and we're here to help.

Working to Help Keep You & Your Rural Community Safe

Our Rural Volunteer Advisory Group and Rural Volunteers are some of the most knowledgeable and qualified people in the agriculture sector. They play an essential role in promoting and raising awareness of health and safety in agricultural communities across Ontario.

From their work with key partners, such as Imperial Oil and their Stop Think Act program, to participating in agricultural events such as Canadian Agricultural Safety Week and Progressive Ag Days, both pivotal links to child farm safety efforts, our Rural Volunteer Advisory Group and Rural Volunteers are working to help you achieve safety at home and on the farm.

Rural Volunteer Advisory Group

Originally formed in 2009, the Rural Volunteer Advisory Group plays a key role in planning and developing resources supporting agriculture sector programs.

We’ve grown to rely on the Rural Volunteer Advisory Group in key areas including:

  • Identify existing and emerging issues/trends to support the work of volunteers
  • Promote the activities and initiatives of WSPS and participate in WSPS events and programs
  • Provide input on programs, services and products targeted at volunteer activities

Rural Volunteers

Rural Volunteers are our ambassadors in rural communities. Quite literally, our feet on the ground helping WSPS provide health and safety awareness programs for farmers, their employees and families in rural communities across the province. Their focus on small business, vulnerable workers, family farms and rural communities is key to nurturing health and safety culture throughout Ontario’s agricultural and rural communities.

Rural Volunteers also work with WSPS to maintain collaborative relationships with community, industry groups and County Farm Safety Associations.
